Experience

Following a successful 20+ year career as a freelance writer, during which I worked with American media, corporations, universities, and nonprofits, I have been teaching for five years. The combination of teaching and professional writing has given me a unique understanding of the English language. I teach children and adults, including Business English classes to local and multinational corporations. Prior to becoming a self-employed English tutor/teacher, I worked with Education First (EF) in Shanghai teaching English lessons online to adults and teens. Before moving to Shanghai, I taught elementary- and middle-school students in the United States. I recently relocated to Shenzhen. I am very patient, empathetic, enthusiastic and supportive of my students. My goal is to help their English speaking, writing or reading skills reach a higher level, and I take great pleasure seeing students consistently improve. I am TEFL-certified, have a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and am close to completing a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
